Development Method
Programming Philosophy:
We do not believe in trapping our clients like some firms by setting you up with proprietary software and systems with illusions of quality you can not realistically use or manage. This would force you into paying extra in long term IT costs when you need expected changes made to your web site, not to mention inherit all the pitfalls that open source has already overcome. ShootinBull.com feels design and development should be based around simplicity and open source platforms. This promotes user interaction and webmaster independence.
Why open source?
Open source platforms are developed by webmasters for webmasters. This method is in direct contrast to an hourly worker trying to meet a deadline to push a corporate product like with Microsoft or Adobe. Open source platforms are very stable, very fast, very proven, and developed with the webmaster in mind, not the programmer. With proprietary systems you really do pay more for less. Proprietary software companies invest millions into marketing campaigns to hide the fact open source is better. They do and say what they can to push the same set of features but for a price they benefit from - THEN they charge for maintenance, setup and everything else they can get away with. It is expensive because they paid a lot of money to make you think it is good. Open source software has no corporate incentive to advertise, therefore it remains a solution that is not well known and certainly not one that is well advertised. There are MAJOR entities and corporations that use open source platforms, anywhere from the U.N (United Nations) to IHOP (International House of Pancakes). If these solutions are good enough for them, aren't they good enough for your firm?
For this reason most of our clients business plans are best meet with open source solutions. We have had many companies come to us in shock that we offered more features and service for less money. It is counter-intuitive, but also a fact. So many brand new start up companies fall into the trap of thinking that quality comes at a high price. Proprietary firms absolutely love and bank off this misunderstanding. It is a very expensive and unnecessary lesson.
